WINE – Raats MR de Compostella

Posted in

We had a wonderful and informative session under the Milkwoods with Bruwer Raats, owner and winemaker at Raats Family Wines. We tasted the sought after Raats MR de Compostella 2018 and Eden Chenin Blanc 2019 – and managed to secure a few bottles of each for the shop🙂. These consistently acclaimed and highly-rated gems never fail to please.

The MR de Compostella, a composition of five carefully selected Bordeaux  varietals, was recently rated 96 points by Tim Aitkin and 97 points by Greg Sherwood.

The Eden Chenin 2019 was awarded 5 stars by Platters and 94 points by Tim Aitkin.

Tasting notes MR de Compostella:

“Deep, dark and intense ruby colour. Blackcurrant and black cherry fruit with hints of violets, cedar and cinnamon. Rich and complex with mineral, blackberry fruit and dark chocolate on the finish. Harmoniously composed of the five Bordeaux varieties to ensure none dominate. This wine shows a consistent, linear flavour profile with a polished and well-defined finish”.

Tasting notes Eden Chenin Blanc:

“The wine’s inviting nose displays lime, green apple, with white peach and pineapple. Here subtle spices of ginger, angelica and white pepper are entwined with florals of peach blossom and honeysuckle. The palate shows further fruit depth with quince, kumquat, mandarin orange and pear, against a backdrop of steely minerals. Hints of roasted hazelnuts and almonds add to the complexity of the palate. The wine is exceptionally linear and fresh with a fine texture and finishes with notes of fennel and the ginger spiciness promised by the nose”.
